chair 003 -“practice chair” June 2024

steel, acrylic, black plastic, sponge foam, vinyl, plywood & cotton yarn

A fully metal-structured chair designed for practicing musical instruments, with an extended front section serving as a music stand. The height of the chair and the backrest can be adjusted using a pin, and the angle of the music stand is also adjustable. The practitioner can raise or lower the seat’s height to match the height of the music stand for a comfortable neck posture and adjust the backrest for supportive comfort.
The entire chair is hand-welded, and the adjustable mechanism is drilled using a Bridgeport milling machine. The four supports in contact with the ground are designed to be adjustable to accommodate uneven surfaces. The metal surfaces are sealed with wax.
Considering the need for minimal distractions during practice, the colours are kept to black, white, and grey.

Violinist Emma Zuo practices and performs on the chair.
